Family Portrait Commissions

The younger woman portrayed here really wanted a portrait of just her mother, but the elderly woman refused to pose alone. Instead, this painting shows the two engaged in a pleasurable shared activity, the reading aloud of poetry, and was commissioned to celebrate the daughter's 40th birthday.
